The Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, and operational efficiency of facility infrastructure under the direction of the Buildings and Facilities Supervisor. This role performs routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on building systems to ensure a safe, compliant, and reliable food manufacturing environment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, preventive, and corrective maintenance on facility infrastructure, including HVAC (non-production), plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, and structural components.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks as assigned through the CMMS or Redzone and accurately document completed work.
  • Assist with inspections, testing, and basic maintenance of fire protection systems, emergency lighting, CCTV, and access control systems.
  • Respond to facility maintenance work orders and emergency repair requests in a timely and safe manner.
  • Support facility improvement projects such as minor remodels, layout changes, and non-production equipment installations.
  • Troubleshoot routine mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues and escalate complex repairs to the Buildings and Facilities Supervisor or qualified contractors.
  • Assist with contractor and vendor coordination by preparing work areas, maintaining safe access, and monitoring work completion.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance shops, mechanical rooms, and facility grounds.
  • Follow all safety, food safety, and regulatory requirements including OSHA, SQF, and company policies.
  • Participate in safety training, audits, and inspections as required.
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Required Skills

  • Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, or general construction preferred.
  • Technical Skills
  • Basic knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems preferred.
  • Basic Knowledge of building repairs, concrete walls, floors
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and CMMS systems preferred.
  • Communication Skills
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow work instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with team members and contractors.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
  • Ability to identify maintenance issues, perform basic troubleshooting, and determine when to escalate issues.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Team-oriented, adaptable, and responsive to changing responsibilities and priorities.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.

Other Details

  • Work Environment: The nature of this position requires the ability to work in hot, dry, wet, and cold environments inside and outside the facility for extended periods of time.
  • Environmental/Physical aspects
  • This position requires the ability to perform various physical activities such as lifting (up to 50 lbs.), standing on concrete floors for extended periods of time, in an environment with moving parts and loud noise.
  • Must be able to work with sanitizers and cleaning chemicals.
  • Must be flexible to work various shifts as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Works on ladders, scaffolds, forklift cages and scissor/boom lifts and in pits using proper safety precautions.

  • Communicate with various department leads and supervisors.
